Introduction

The Program

The Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG is a public institution of higher education whose philosophy and institutional policy is the study of the coastal ecosystem. FURG is located in the municipality of Rio Grande (RS), a peculiar region at the mouth of Patos Lagoon, with an extensive beach (Cassino), the largest sea port in southernmost South America, an industrial complex where the fish industry and the chemical industry (oil and fertilizers) stand out, and an environment of high ecological importance, including part of the Taim ecological reserve.

The Master’s Program in Ocean Engineering was created in 1994, aimed at training personnel with technical and scientific qualifications to carry out research in the field of Ocean Engineering. This Graduate Program has a strong relationship with the field of oceanography, with joint action on several topics, especially those involving the regional ecosystem.
